The Queen of Sheba and the Magi: Outsiders Seeking God
Throughout the Old and New Testaments, there are many stories of men and women who are outside
of the faith community, but who demonstrate remarkable faith in God. In looking at some of these
stories, we will examine the insider/outsider theme in the Bible, the nature of faith, and the nature of
relationship between God and men/women.

The Bible itself is our textbook, but many of the ideas presented are taken from the book
The Faith of
the Outsider: Exclusion and Inclusion in the Biblical Story
by Frank Anthony Spina (Eerdmans, 2005).
No reading or preparation is required. Each lesson will be a unit, so you can come to one or come to all.

Instructors for this series are:

Alice Yafeh-Deigh: Alice has studied in her native Cameroon, in Paris and at
Yale and she is now completing her dissertation for a Ph.D. at Princeton
Theological Seminary.

Anne Putnam: Anne has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA
from the Wharton School. She is President of Nota Bene Associates, Inc., a
company that develops software for academic writing and research.
